Kathy Harrison
Kathy Harrison currently works as an Undergraduate Advisor and Instructor in the School of Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria. Kathy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care in 1998 and went on to complete her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology in 2005 from the Faculty of Education.
Prior to coming to UVic, Kathy has eight years of experience in the child and youth care field working as a Youth and Family Counsellor in the Saanich School District and a Family Development Worker for Nisika Community Services (now Phoenix Child and Family Services). Jessica Evans
Jessica Evans is currently a Graduate student in the School of Child and Youth Care. Jessica's research focus is Childhood Spirituality and more specifically Childhood Peak Experiences. Jessica's practice background is in therapeutic residential care, working with at-risk girls as well as children. Other practice experiences have included international youth programming, children who witness violence counselling and work with youth with developmental disabilities
Dr. Jennifer Charlesworth
Jennifer has worked in the human services field for over 30 years. She has had the privilege of being a front line child and youth care practitioner, team leader, facilitator, consultant, trainer, researcher, educator and a Cabinet advisor for two different parties. She has worked in government, non-profit, philanthropic, university and private sectors. Her passion for child and youth care and social justice have been continuous threads throughout her career.
Jennifer has a BA and PhD in Child and Youth Care and has studied at the University of Victoria, Cambridge University in the UK and the University of British Columbia.
She is currently the Executive Director of the Federation of Community Social Services of British Columbia - an organization that is the provincial voice for community-based child, youth and family services in this province. In this capacity, she has been building stronger connections between community agencies, provincial government ministries, and post-secondary institutions to support healthy dialogue, mutual learning and constructive change in human service policies and practices.
Jennifer is the co-author of All Together Now: Creating a Social Capital Mosaic, which explores opportunities for co-creating healthier communities, and Emergent Practice Planning, that challenges human service practitioners to work with the complexity in case practice. Most recently, she has contributed to a new edited work entitled Standing on the Precipice - Inquiry into the Creative Potential of Child and Youth Care Practice.
Kristen Petovello
Child Life Specialist
Kristy Petovello graduated from the School of Child and Youth Care in the spring of 2004. During her schooling she chose to specialize in Child Life and is now a Certified Child Life Specialist at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
From 2004 to present she has been putting her undergrad training to use in a variety of settings. She worked at the ‘Hole in the Wall Gang' camp in Ireland for a number of months providing children and youth from across Europe facing life-threatening illnesses with an opportunity to engage in therapeutic recreational activities. From Ireland she moved to Bucharest Romania, where she lived for a year and a half working with abandoned infants in a local hospital and setting up a stimulating program of play for children with physical and intellectual disabilities living in one of the cities' many orphanages. From 2007-2009 she worked at the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton Alberta as a Child Life Specialist where she continued to use play to help children process their experiences of illness and hospitalization. Working in this field has long been a dream of hers and she was thrilled to be working with the child life team in an acute care hospital like the Stollery.
In January 2009 she returned to Vancouver Island to start a Child Life program in the pediatric inpatient unit and outpatient clinic at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. She is very excited to be back in BC and honoured to be starting this new position.
Chris Cunin
Chris graduated with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Camosun College in 1994, a BA in CYC in 1997, and he just successfully defended his Master's Thesis for his MA in CYC.
Chris is presently working at the Child & Family Counselling Association (CAFCA) as a Youth and Family Counsellor. He has worked within Youth Guardianship, Youth Protection and currently holds a full-time permanent position with the Specialized Crisis Intervention Team (SCIT). Chris has had a number of other positions in the field. Such as an Acute Mental Health Counsellor at Vancouver Island Hospital Authority (VIHA); Youth Outreach worker at Fairfield Community Centre; and Youth and Family Counsellor for Salt Spring Island Community Centre.
Chris plans on getting his Registered Clinical Counsellor Designation for either BC Counselling Association or the Canadian Counselling Association and continue a private counseling practice.

Dr. Catherine McGregor has enjoyed a rich career in a number of endeavours including work as a classroom teacher in Kamloops and as a post secondary educator at the University of Northern British Columbia and the University of Victoria. She is an assistant professor in the Leadership Studies program at UVic. She also served as the first woman MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) for Kamloops from 1996-2001.
She has a range of leadership experiences including time spent as a teacher leader in the BCTF both locally and provincially, as a Union President and Bargaining Chair, and member of the BCTF Executive. She also served as
Chair of the BC Lottery Corporation (1991 to 1995) and when in government held a number of cabinet portfolios, including the Ministry of Environment,the Ministry of Advanced Education and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.
Karen Klashinsky
Degree and Year: BEd Elementary Education 2006 (UVic)
Born and raised in Victoria, Karen Klashinsky has been teaching in one capacity or another for several years. She attended Camosun College before transferring to the elementary education program at UVic, graduating from the 5-year program in 2006. She has spent time as a Teacher on Call in different temporary positions in elementary and middle schools in both the lower island and in Haiti. Karen is currently teaching the high incidence class at Shoreline Middle School on a continuing contract. She enjoys volunteering for a variety of organizations including Operation Trackshoes, where she is in charge of the Junior Program. Karen plans to begin a masters program next September. She has a keen interest in special education.
Peter Mason

Peter Mason is a director and part owner of "Speakwell Solutions," a company at the forefront of the wellness industry in North America. A sought-after speaker and educator, Peter has over 31 years of high school teaching experience in physical education, mathematics and outdoor education. He believes that "community involvement is at the heart of a successful life" and practices what he preaches. He was the driving force behind building "The Boulders," a million-dollar rock-climbing facility for his school and community. He spent 15 years developing outdoor education programs for his students and is a recipient of the Gerry York Moving to Inclusion Award from the Active Living Alliance, a national body that promotes the inclusion of students with special needs. He has taken students on 59 trips to Mt. Albert Edward, 4 trips to Nepal and several trips to Mt. Baker and Mt. Adams. Peter is passionately interested in speaking with people about making a difference in their workplaces and in their communities as well as getting on the move by walking. He is an avid hiker and climber and continues to volunteer with a number of organizations.
Michelle Couture

Raised in Black Creek, BC (on Vancouver Island), Michelle moved to Victoria in 1999 to pursue her undergraduate studies in the Faculty of Humanities, which led her on an exchange to Dijon, France in 2002 for an amazing cultural and linguistic learning experience. In 2004, she graduated from UVic with a BA Honours Degree in French Language and Literature. Upon completing her MA in French Language and Literature in 2005, Michelle returned to France where she spent a year teaching English to future elementary school teachers. She continued to pursue her passion for teaching when she completed her BEd degree at UVic in 2008. Michelle was the top student in her graduating class and awarded the 2008 Maxwell Cameron Award. She is currently a Grade 6 French Immersion teacher in the Victoria School District, a job she is thoroughly enjoying.

Jim Dunsdon is the Associate Vice-President of Student Affairs at UVic. In this position reporting to the Vice-President Academic and Provost, his responsibilities include the Offices of the Registrar and Enrolment Services; Athletics and Recreation; the University Bookstore; Child Care Services; Counselling Services; Health Services; Housing, Food and Conference Services; Interfaith Chaplains Services; International and Exchange Student Services; and the Resource Centre for Students with a Disability. Mr. Dunsdon most recently served as Associate Vice-Provost (Student Services) at the University of Calgary. He received a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria in 1995 and an MBA in Education Management from the University of Leicester, UK in 2005. His term began on May 1, 2009.

Jeanie Gunn has ten years of experience managing and producing events and currently serves as the Manager, Convocation and Events at the University of Victoria. Before joining UVic, Jeanie worked at a foundation where she organized fundraising events including golf tournaments, guest speakers and gala dinners. PJ Naylor

Dr. PJ Naylor is an Assistant Professor in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education at the University of Victoria and the Co-Principal Investigator of the Action Schools! BC (AS! BC) Dissemination and Implementation trials that are funded by CIHR and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. From 1994-2004 Dr. Naylor was a consultant for the Physical Activity Unit of the BC Ministry of Health and the Principal Investigator of the BC Heart Health Dissemination Research Project. Her PhD research examined the impact of psychosocial intervention strategies on exercise adherence in obese women. After completing her PhD she was an Assistant Professor with the Exercise and Health Research Unit at the University of Bristol, England (1991-1994).
Dr. Naylor's current research interests are in socio-ecological approaches to obesity and chronic disease prevention (focusing mostly on children and youth), building and measuring organizational and community capacity, mobilizing communities for action on health and knowledge exchange (facilitating the adoption and utilization of evidence-based approaches). Past and current projects include: AS! BC, BC School Fruit and Vegetable Snack Pilot Program, Municipal Recreation Food Environment Audit Tool project (MRFEAT) and Healthy Opportunities for Preschoolers (HOP - a resource and workshop for families and childcare providers). Dr. Naylor is also on the Board of the newly founded Childhood Obesity Foundation of BC.
Dustin Ray-Wilks

Dustin Ray-WiIks is currently the Aquatic Coordinator at the Panorama Recreation Centre in North Saanich. A competitive swimmer in his teenaged years, Dustin has continued on with his love of the water and held several positions in the aquatic field in several local recreation centres and aquatic facilities. After high school he attended the University of the Fraser Valley for a year, but then transferred to UVic in 2000 for general studies. It was in his PE 141 class (Human Anatomy ) that he realized his true passion. He knew he needed to complete his degree in recreation, a philosophy that he deeply believed in. Dustin and his team recently re-opened the aquatic facility at Panorama after a 14-month, 12 million-dollar renovation with a staff of 53 (up from 25) and the first fully accessible waterslide in North America! He enjoys cooking, walking, mountain biking, swimming, weightlifting, snowboarding, and kayaking in his spare time.
Zeke Cabell

Zeke Cabell is a registered kinesiologist and currently serves as the Director of Athlete Development at Compton Sports in Victoria, BC, where he designs and delivers programs to athletes from a myriad of sports groups including: St Michaels University School rowers, soccer teams, professional hockey players, cyclists, and others. Since his graduation from UVic's Kinesiology Program in 2003, Zeke has worked for several area sports and recreation facilities as a trainer and kinesiologist.
Andrea Carey

MEd Leadership Studies 2005 (UVic)Andrea Carey is the Program/Facility Director for the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence. She holds a BA in Leisure Service Administration; a MEd in Leadership Studies and is a Trainer of Fitness Leaders for BCRPA. She is an accomplished athlete and has participated in several long distance events and charitable races.
Andrea owned a very successful consulting business, Concentric Consulting Inc., which was an event management, marketing, and health promotions company. She was the Marketing Director for Frontrunners Footwear for 5 years. Through her association with Frontrunners Footwear, and local recreation centres, Andrea organized and coordinated running, walking and active lifestyle clinics for about 1500 participants in the South Island region each year. Andrea is also well known for her performance training skills and has privately coached numerous athletes in running, walking, swimming, the triathlon and Ironman distance races.
With her 12-year background in the business of sport, fitness and recreation, Andrea has an extensive knowledge of the industry, and brings a passionate and enthusiastic commitment to her role as Program & Facility Director at PISE.
Tim Dewailly

Tim Dewailly grew up in Quebec City and moved to Victoria in 1999 to start an undergraduate degree at UVic. After a couple of years in Biology, Tim decided to transfer into the Faculty of Education to pursue a degree in Kinesiology. During his undergraduate years in Victoria, Tim also trained with the National Triathlon Training Centre, while competing at national and international competitions. After completing his degree at UVic, Tim completed a Masters in Physiotherapy at UBC. Since his recent graduation in 2008, Tim has been working as a physiotherapist for both Synergy Health Management, a multidisciplinary health clinic and Island Hand Therapy Clinic which specializes in hand injuries.

Lori Zehr is the Associate Director/Dean of Student Development Services at Camosun College. She received a BSc Honour's degree in Human Performance from the University of Victoria in 1991 and a MSc in Human Biodynamics from McMaster University in 1993. Lori has over 18 years of experience in the health, fitness and rehabilitation industry and continues to work primarily with individuals with injuries and chronic diseases. Her career highlights include teaching at McMaster, University of Alberta and UVIC; BC Provincial Manager of Physical Activity and Workplace Wellness; Manager of Millard Health Centre. Lori is extremely involved with the industry's professional bodies and is the Past-Chair of the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology National Health and Fitness Program and Vice President of the Canadian Kinesiology Association. Her research interests include the investigation of health promotion strategies and programs which increase physical activity levels of the population. Lori is also interested in the role of the exercise professional in promoting and changing behaviours that lead to a more active population in an effort to prevent and manage chronic diseases.
